The checker tries every way of splitting each test word into syllables matching your patterns. Words that fully tile are legal; for the rest, the point where no split can continue is reported.

C stands for a consonant and V for a vowel, so CV is a consonant-vowel syllable like 'ka' and CVC adds a closing consonant like 'kat'. Listing your allowed patterns defines the phonotactics, or permissible sound structure, of your language.

manta splits as man-ta (CVC-CV), katira as ka-ti-ra and monel as mo-nel; xthun cannot start, because x is not in the inventory. A vowel-initial word such as aman would fail too, since neither CV nor CVC allows a syllable without a consonant onset (add V to the patterns to allow it).
The generator builds words from a consonant and vowel inventory arranged into syllable patterns — CV, CVC and so on — which is the core of what makes an invented language sound coherent. Two languages can share every sound and feel entirely different because one permits consonant clusters at the start of a syllable and the other does not.
The sample words it produces are freshly generated each time you load the page, so they are one valid sample rather than a fixed set. Regenerate until the texture sounds right; the pattern is the output, not any particular word.
Consistency of the sound inventory does most of the work. Readers detect an intruder immediately — one name with a sound the rest of the language never uses reads as borrowed from somewhere, which is fine if you intended it and jarring if you did not.
The second thing is that natural languages have exceptions and history. Perfectly regular output sounds artificial precisely because it is: real vocabulary carries loanwords, archaic forms and irregular survivals. Deriving related words from shared roots, and letting a handful of common words be irregular, does more for plausibility than expanding the inventory.
